URL-Based Tab Activation

The URL-Based Tab Activation feature lets you open a particular tab automatically when visitors land on a page. By appending a simple query parameter (e.g., ?wp_etb=tab2) to your URL, you can guide users to the exact content they need—perfect for marketing links, documentation, and shared resources.

Who Should Use This

  • Documentation Authors: Link directly to relevant sections in long tutorials
  • Marketers & Campaigns: Drive traffic to featured product details or offers
  • Support Teams: Share precise answers by deep-linking to FAQ tabs
  • Content Creators: Embed links in emails or social posts that open to the right tab

Prerequisites

  • Easy Tabs Block Pro activated
  • A Tabs block with a unique Query Parameter Name set in the Tab Button sidebar
  • At least two tab buttons, each with a distinct query parameter value (e.g., tab1, tab2)

How to Configure URL-Based Activation

  1. Select a Tab Button
In the Gutenberg editor, click on a Tab Button to open its sidebar settings.
  2. Set the Query Parameter Name
Under URL-Based Tab Activation, enter a unique key for this tab (e.g., tab2).
  3. Copy the Activation URL
Click Copy URL to copy a link like https://example.com/page/?wp_etb=tab2.
  4. Repeat for Other Tabs
Assign different keys (e.g., tab1, tab3) to each tab button.

How It Works

  • When a user visits a URL containing ?wp_etb=yourKey, Easy Tabs Block parses the query parameter and opens the matching tab on page load.
  • If no matching key is found, the block falls back to the default active tab you’ve set.

Best Practices

  • Use Descriptive Keys: Choose short, human-readable keys like features, pricing, or faq.
  • Test Your Links: Verify each activation link opens the correct tab on different devices and browsers.
  • Combine with Menu Links: Add activation URLs to your site navigation or buttons for seamless user journeys.
  • Document Your Keys: Keep a reference list of query keys and their corresponding tab content for team use.

Example Use Cases

  • Feature Spotlight: Share ?wp_etb=pricing to send users directly to pricing details.
  • FAQ Answers: Link ?wp_etb=faq3 in support tickets to open the precise question tab.
  • Onboarding Guides: Email new users a link that jumps right to the “Get Started” tab.
